Submission process

  • Step1

    Decide on a theme

Collect information and data on themes such as: What is life insurance? What is the life insurance situation like in your country and around the world? What has been your own family’s involvement with life insurance? Decide on a theme from among these regarding what you would like to write about that is relevant to life insurance.

The “FALIA Essay Competition 2022 Prize Winner Announcement,” which lists the titles of past prize-winning essays, and “Tips for Essay Writing” have been uploaded to FALIA's homepage.

  • Step2

    Write your essay

Summarize your own ideas and assertions in a logical manner based on the information and data you collected. It would be best to employ the techniques you learned at university, such as statistical analysis techniques.

According to questionnaires of past winners, many of them took between about two weeks to two months to write their essays.

If there is anything you are unsure of, please inquire directly with us via the inquiry form at the bottom of the page, or with the person in charge of the essay competition (essay@falia.jp)

  • Step3

Submit your essay via the submission form

You can submit your essay by filling out the required fields on the submission form (scheduled to go live by the end of May, 2023) and attaching your essay as a Word file.

Prize winner's Voice

2022 1st Award  Ms. Fritzie Rodriguez
International University of Japan / from the Philippines

Life Insurance, Same-Sex Couples, and Gender Equality: Lessons from the Philippines
First of all, I’d like to thank FALIA for giving international students like me a safe space to explore and share our ideas. I actually did not expect to win at all since I don’t have any background on economics, finance, or even quantitative research as most contestants do. But I am beyond happy that FALIA recognized my essay on gender equality and LGBTQ rights. I hope that this essay competition continues to inspire and challenge students to think of innovative ways on how life insurance can help address various social issues. I’m inviting international students—especially those who are more comfortable with qualitative studies—to not be afraid of joining the FALIA Essay Competition.

Consequently, I participated in 2022 Competition to explore the concept of life insurance from various perspectives to contribute to knowledge and policy dialogue. More interestingly, I was exposed to great ideas of all the award winners and insightful comments from the reviewers.
